With lots of excitement towards this project, after the short briefing in Tetawowe Atelier office, we were brought to the real site, where is located at Seksyen 17 in PJ. To get thing runs faster and easier, we were divided into three groups and each group will be handled and studied different parts of the site.
During the first site visit, we worked with our team and we were given free time to walk around to explore and discover the interesting spaces and activities occurred at the site. Besides, we were also given a task which is to interview the residences in order to get to know deeper stories behind regarding on their sojourn years, lifestyle and problems of living in this area.
Below are some photos taken on the site with our interpretations and understandings.
Extension of window frame is added behind the kitchen because of the limited space in one unit.
In between space,
Hawker stalls are found in between two residential blocks.
In front of the residential block, extra shared parking shade is built by the residences there.
Courtyard is created for plantation purpose to beautify the residential area.
Small walkway is built around the garden to allow resident easier to access into the garden.
There are also some cleanliness problems we found on the site that caused underused of the park. Potholes and rubbish are everywhere, poor maintained of the park facilities and also serious breeding of mosquitoes.
The back alley was a mess. Rubbish can be found everywhere, comes up with bad smell too. Some of the cars parked at here due to insufficient of car parks in front. We can also see that residences extended their own unit at the back for more spaces for activities.
A hall，named in chinese, "Wai Dan Gong", a space with lots of activities happens at here. It was located in front of Block B and the food court.
Peoples and residences have their breakfast between Block B & C, which was occupied by some hawker. This happened due to the comfortable shaded area by few of the big and tall trees surrounded here. They could stay up chit chatting at here till noon !
Playground near Block B&C, can be described with awful. See-saws, slides are broken, everything was poor maintain. Aedes mosquitoes are everywhere due to rubbish blockage in the ditch.
As a conclusion, this is the first time that all of us being exposed on a real site under big hot sun, doing interview like a professional reporter and we also sketched in front of the blocks for own documentation. It is really an uneasy task to work on a community project, but it's really fun indeed! Undoubtedly, it's a good start for us to study independently and it helps us to build a stronger foundation to face our coursework in the future!
